The ECRF was established following public interest in an Australian Story episode, aired in 2007 and again in 2011, that documented the founding of EnGeneIC by joint CEOs Dr. Jennifer MacDiarmid and Dr. Himanshu Brahmbhatt and their quest toward a cancer cure.

The Foundation, while small, is committed to challenging existing approaches to treating cancer and to encouraging the development of therapies that are tailored to the individual and not simply standardised across patients. We do not believe that debilitating side effects of chemotherapy should simply be accepted as a necessary evil associated with treatment, and want to ensure that there are research programs, students and professionals who are constantly challenging the treatment norms to come up with novel and tailor-made medicine solutions, even in less common cancers that often receive little research funding.
